So, you’ve started your new academic journey at Kansas State University Olathe.
Congrats!
We’re thrilled to be a part of your college experience. At our campus, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn, develop your professional skills, connect with other learners and deepen your knowledge of your chosen field.
Before you begin your classes, though, be sure to read these tips and tricks to ensure you have a great start at K-State Olathe.
Attend Student Orientation
Student orientation provides an opportunity for learners to familiarize themselves with campus prior to the first day of classes. If you’re looking for a chance to explore, find out where our classrooms are and connect with your Student Success Coach. Our orientation provides a space where you can do this.
This year, we're offering an in-person orientation. It will be on campus from 5:30- 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. Attendance is optional, but we’d love to see you! When you attend, you’ll be able to connect with other students as well as key staff and faculty members who can support you throughout your academic journey.
Additionally, our online-only students may request a virtual appointment with their Student Success Coach to connect, ask questions and discover resources.
Find Student Resources
Whether you’re completing your undergraduate degree, working on a graduate degree or you’re here to complete a certificate, the right resources can make an incredible difference in your academic experience.
Our campus offers several resources you’ll want to become familiar with:
- Cats’ Cupboard Cart — Our cart is open anytime the campus is. Students may take as much as they need from the cart.
- Student Success Center — Looking for a quiet place to study? Need to print something off? Our center offers you a space where you can spend time with classmates or alone to work on projects and homework.
- Scholarships and Financial Support — Need support? We’re ready to help you. Explore our scholarships and financial support page to find out how you can get the help you need.
Prepare For Your Classes
The best time to prepare for your classes is before they start. Prior to the first day of your courses, look through your class syllabus. What questions do you have? Does anything seem unclear or challenging? It’s OK to reach out to your professors in advance to ask questions prior to your class starting. In fact, it’s what they’re there for!
Another way you can prepare for your classes is to purchase your books and needed materials in advance. Ideally, you’ll have an opportunity to review some of the content you’ll be exploring in class. This will give you a deeper understanding of what you can expect, as well as help you identify areas you need to improve.
