Online, in person or hybrid? Find the learning style that fits you

You know you want to go back to school. The harder question is how. Online, in person and hybrid classes each work well, but the right one depends on you.

The short answer: the best learning format is the one that matches your schedule, learning style and matches the amount of face-to-face connection you want. At K-State Olathe, you don't have to be locked into one kind of scenario. Our classes are taught in person, online and as a hybrid, and most are held after hours for working professionals.

What's the difference between online, in-person and hybrid learning?

In-person learning means you attend class on campus with your instructor and classmates. Online learning means you complete coursework remotely, on your own device and often on your own schedule. Hybrid learning blends the two, with some sessions on campus and the rest online.

So, what kind of student are you?

  • The Connector. You think best in a room full of people. You like asking questions in real time, swapping ideas over a whiteboard and building a network you can call on later. In-person classes give you structure, accountability and face time with faculty who bring real industry experience.

  • The Juggler. Your calendar is already packed with work, family and a standing Thursday soccer practice. You need flexibility more than anything. Online courses let you fit learning into the gaps of your day instead of rearranging your life around a class schedule. If that sounds like you, check out our tips for how to be an online student and our advice on balancing a full-time job with school.

  • The Best-of-Both. You like the energy of campus, but you can't be there every week. Hybrid learning gives you in-person connection when it matters and online convenience when it doesn't.

Still not sure? That's normal. Many adult learners find their answer by talking it through with a student success coach, who can help match a format to your life before you ever apply.
